Educational Objectives:  Following this presentation, the participants will be better able to:
1. Discuss the individual, public and global health implication of infectious diseases of the eye.
2. Develop strategies to approach infectious diseases of the eye, inflammation, and factors related to health systems strengthening in global ophthalmic work in resource-limited settings.
3. Develop strategies to diagnose and mange uveitis using imaging and novel molecular diagnostic tools.

Research/professional interests: As part of the growing department of ophthalmology/Truhlsen Eye Institute, my primary clinical interests involve the care of patients with uveitis, an inflammatory condition of the eye, which may be caused by infectious or noninfectious, autoimmune diseases. I also enjoy caring for patients with diabetes, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease and retinal surgical conditions to improve their vision health. Our research team's interests include programs to understand the impact of Ebola, COVID-19, and emerging infectious diseases on the eye in the United States and sub-Saharan Africa, as well as immune mechanisms of disease and novel therapies for uveitis.
